Thief Who Loaded His Picture With Parang on Facebook, Gets Caught After Cybercafe Robbery Victims Recognizes Him.

Alleged thief’s FB photos lead to his own undoing
PETALING JAYA: Police arrested an alleged 17-year-old thief after an employee of the cyber cafe he robbed recognised him on Facebook.

The teenager lodged a report at the Sentul police station at 3am yesterday to deny media reports that he had held up a cyber cafe in Danau Kota, Setapak, with aparang last Friday.
Media reports claimed the suspect later foolishly uploaded photos of him posing with a parang and his “loot” on Facebook, which led to his undoing.
“He denied being a robber though he acknowledged that the photos on his Facebook were his.
“No items were recovered from him and the suspect will be remanded until Oct 19 to assist investigations,” said Sentul OCPD ACP Zakaria Pagan.
It is believed that the suspect and his accomplice barged into the cyber cafe at 6pm on Friday and threatened the owner and its patrons with a parang and demanded money from them.
Harian Metro reported that the boy later uploaded photos of his plunder on Facebook, barely two hours after the crime.
However, a check on the suspect’s Facebook revealed that the photos in question were uploaded months before the reported robbery.
A police source said an employee of the cyber cafe recognised the suspect in his photos and alerted authorities.
ACP Zakaria said police were also on the lookout for the suspect’s accomplice.
