KUALA LUMPUR: A woman claiming to be the mother of abused child Nandini has surrendered herself to the police.
She came to the Bukit Aman police station Saturday morning and led the police to a house where the four-year-old runaway had stayed before she was spotted begging for meals at a food court in Setapak earlier this week.
The police said they have also picked up the child's guardians but declined to say how many people there were or if they were relatives of the tortured girl.
“We have yet to find out the relationship between the guardians and Nandini’s family,” said City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Ku Chin Wah when contacted.
“We are still searching for Nandini’s father, whom we believe is the missing link in her abuse case,” he said.
Known only as Nandini, the child had scars on her nose and forehead as well as fresh wounds reportedly from a hammer, spanner and pliers when a 42-year-old man found the scared-looking child near a fire station at Jalan Ayer Jerneh at around 4am on Oct 9.
Following the detention of her mother and guardians, the police have ruled out the earlier theory that she was abused by grandparents.
“We believe Nandini’s mother placed her in the care of the guardians before taking off,” said SAC Ku.
Nandini had allegedly run away from home after enduring months of abuse by those who were supposed to take care of her.
SAC Ku urged anyone aware of the whereabouts of Nandini’s father to contact the police.
This 4-year-old Girl Would Rather Be Homeless Than Abused at Home
A brave little 4-year-old girl decided to take control of her own life after months and months of being abused at home.
Wounds On 4-Year-Old's Hands, Legs And Body
- The horrific tale of violence and sexual abuse, with scars and fresh wounds on the girl’s body bearing testimony to the horror she had gone through, was so shocking that even policemen were taken aback at the sight of her injuries.
- Ysuri said, "I bought her some bread and drinks. In the car, I could see slash marks on her hands and scratches on her face. When I asked her about it, she told me her father slashed her with a knife as punishment for ‘stealing’ food from the house."
- “At the police station, policemen were shocked at the extent of her injuries. She had to lean her body towards her hands to eat the bread as she could barely lift her arms.”
A kind hearted passerby saw the child crying uncontrollable on a curb. The 41-year-old samaritan fed her and took her to the police
- After wandering the streets for a short while, the hapless child sat down at a kerb crying uncontrollably until a passerby saw her along Jalan Air Jerneh.
- Police said the passer-by — who was on his way home from work — told the police she cried and asked for food when he approached her.
- The source said: “The man told us she looked frightened, pale and weak and kept crying and asking for food. “He fed the girl before handing her over to the police.
The police sent Nandini to the KL Hospital where doctors were shocked to find wounds that indicate at least six months of abuse and torture
- Kuala Lumpur police chief Senior DCP Datuk Mohmad Salleh said the motorist went to her aid and later called the police, who then sent Nandini to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital, where she remains warded as doctors treat her for injuries.
- The doctors were shocked to find the child's body bearing numerous old scars and fresh wounds.
- Several nasty scars on her nose, forehead and lips. Old scars all over her body which a medical report suggested had been caused by abuse over at least six months.
Investigators believe that she had been hit with a hammer, spanner and pinched with pliers
- Following an interview by the police sexual crimes and child abuse unit, investigators learned that the girl had been hit with a hammer, spanner and pinched with pliers.
- “We believe she was not dumped on the streets by her parents, but instead ran away from home as she couldn’t stand being abused.”
- A police source said the initial medical report also showed injuries to her private parts.
The child says she ran away from home because she could no longer bear the attacks and beatings at home
- The child told police that the relative had abused her for some time and that she had run away as she could no longer take the attacks.
- At 4am last Wednesday, a four-year-old girl decided that she could no longer bear the abuse and beatings that a close relative had allegedly inflicted on her for months.
- The girl, who later told police that her name was Nandini, walked out of her home in Setapak, braving the dark and cold to escape what she knew even at her tender age would be hell if she remained.
Police has now released her photo in an attempt to track down her parents
