Female ASP Police Officer Arrested As Too Many Discrepancies in Her Story in Casanova Escape Saga

Female officer in Casanova escape case arrested over holes in her story

GEORGE TOWN: The female officer said to be the last person to have seen the Casanova who escaped from police custody was arrested as there were “too many discrepancies in her story”.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said investigations showed there could be something else behind the escape, but he declined to elaborate.
“We have extended her remand until tomorrow as there still are a few loose ends to tie up,” he said. “We hope to complete our investigations next week.”
He urged the public to help recapture K.K. Prabaharan, who escaped from the courthouse here while still in handcuffs. They can call the Rakan COP hotline (04-269 1999) or any police station if they spot him.
The 55-year-old female officer bearing the rank of Asst Supt (ASP) was earlier remanded until yesterday. She was being investigated for negligence and allowing a suspect to escape from police custody.
On Wednesday, Prabaharan, a 45-year-old computer technician accused of cheating women of their valuables and money, escaped and fled on foot after arriving at the courthouse here under police escort from Cameron Highlands. Instead of being taken to the Penang prison, the ASP requested that he be brought to the court for case mention.
Police are trying to determine how the officer obtained the phone number of the police escort personnel from Cameron Highlands before directing him to bring the suspect to the court in George Town.
