Khairil Azwan Wins UMNO Youth Vice Chief Post

Khairul is Umno Youth vice-chief

KUALA LUMPUR: PERAK Umno Youth chief Khairul Azwan Harun is Umno Youth's new vice-chief following his victory in the re-election in Gelang Patah and Sabak Bernam divisions, said Umno executive secretary Datuk Ab Rauf Yusoh.

"Unofficially, Khairul is the new Umno Youth deputy but we will make an official announcement only tomorrow."
Yesterday, the re-election in the two divisions was held with the agreement of the two candidates for the post Sabah Umno Youth head Jamawi Jaafar and Khairul.
The duo were tied at 73 votes each during the Umno Youth election on Oct 12.
Another division, Bachok, will hold its re-election tomorrow.
Rauf, however, said the outcome of the Bachok results would not make a difference as Khairul had secured the most number of votes.
Umno election committee chairman Tan Sri Tajol Rosli Ghazali had said the re-election was called following a dispute over the results by both sides.
"At the meeting (with both candidates), the voting at the three divisions was disputed by both sides, and they agreed to a re-election in the three divisions to determine the winner."
Earlier in Sabak Bernam, Khairul received 161 votes compared with Jamawi's 69 votes. A total of 249 delegates from 54 branches in Sabak Bernam cast their votes from 10am. The voting proceeded smoothly and the whole process, including the counting of votes, ended at 11am.
In Gelang Patah, Khairul received 96 votes while Jamawi obtained 61 votes. Additional reporting by Sarah Rahim
