The governor announced the move on Saturday during a visit to the scene, citing safety concerns following the rising death toll, Anadolu Agency reported.
He also instructed doctors in government hospitals to be reassigned to help treat the victims at the Suleja General Hospital. Niger Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) commander Kumar Tsukwam said many lives were lost due to people trying to collect fuel from spilled tanks in the Suleja Local Government Area.
"So far, the death toll has reached 70," he told reporters, adding that rescue operations were still ongoing with the help of other agencies.
