YORK: The New York Court of Appeals on Thursday rejected U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's application to delay sentencing in a bribery case scheduled for Friday, Xinhua reported.

Judge Jenny Rivera of the New York Court of Appeals refused to sign the order after examining an application to adjourn the session, according to a summary order issued by the court on Thursday morning.

"Following the judge's decision, no application is being considered in this case at the Court of Appeal," the order said. Prosecutors from the Manhattan district attorney's office in court documents described Trump's argument to delay sentencing based on the concept of "presidential immunity" as baseless.

While Trump's lawyers turned to the New York Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court to delay sentencing decisions, it is now up to the Supreme Court to decide.

Judge Ellen Gesmer of New York's Supreme Court Appellate Division, First Division, on Tuesday dismissed Trump's efforts to postpone the session.

In May 2024, a jury in New York found Trump guilty of 34 criminal charges, including falsifying business records to cover up the payment of kickbacks to a star during the 2016 presidential election campaign.
