GAZA: A huge explosion was heard in Gaza on Sunday after a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas was agreed to be implemented today.

The explosion occurred at 7 a.m. local time about 30 minutes after the ceasefire in Gaza was supposed to begin.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the ceasefire would not begin until Hamas members prepared a list of hostages to be released. Netanyahu's announcement came an hour before the ceasefire deadline.

The hostages are expected to be released within hours of the start of the ceasefire, paving the way for a possible end to the 15-month war in the Palestinian territories.

Last week, Israel and Hamas managed to reach an agreement that could stop the war in Gaza, thus seeing the release of hostages from both sides.

It would be the most dramatic victory in 15 months of war, which has cost more than 46,000 Palestinian lives. --Agency
