Hong Kong: Hong Kong carrier Cathay Pacific Airways has canceled all flights at Hong Kong International Airport scheduled for Friday and Saturday as Typhoon Saola approaches the city.
"As a result of Super Typhoon Saola approaching Hong Kong, several flights scheduled to arrive and depart from Hong Kong International Airport on Friday (September 1) and Saturday (September 2) were affected.
"... All Cathay Pacific flights arriving and departing from Hong Kong between 2pm on Friday and 10am on Saturday have been cancelled," the airline announced on its website, Sputnik reported.
The company said more flight delays and cancellations are likely on Saturday morning based on weather conditions and the path of the typhoon.
The China Meteorological Administration earlier announced that a maximum level emergency warning had been issued in southern China as the typhoon approached.
The typhoon will move northwest at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour and approach coastal areas in eastern Guangdong province, before approaching coastal areas in Hong Kong on Friday.
