A man believed to be insane was arrested by the police after attacking a guest imam at the Sultan Ahmad 1 State Mosque while he was performing the Subuh prayer early Sunday morning.
The incident happened at about 6.18 in the morning, the suspect aged in his 40s who was dressed in a purple colored baju Melayu with a patchwork cloth and black pants suddenly attacked the victim from behind.
District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu confirmed the incident saying, it happened in the men's prayer room of the mosque.
According to him, the imam involved is a student of Maahad Tahfiz Thurath, Ilhan Muhammad Irham who was invited to lead the morning prayer at the Khatam Subuh 2.0 Program of Sultan Ahmad State Mosque 1 here.
"Based on the chronology of the incident, during the second rak'ah of Subuh prayers with an estimated congregation of 80 people, a man's voice was heard shouting from the direction of the roller shutter door of the mosque on the path in front of CIMB bank.
Wan Mohd Zahari said, after seeing the incident, the security of the mosque and the congregation continued to act to stop the man's actions.
He explained that the man involved was arrested before being handed over to the police for further action.
