KUALA LUMPUR: The 'Love Scam' fraud is one of the highest criminal cases recorded in the period of 2018 until last February, with losses estimated at more than RM365 million.

Acting Deputy Director (Investigation) of the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK) Bukit Aman Police Headquarters Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said a study conducted by the JSJK found that out of 7,286 cases recorded, 82.5 percent of the victims were women.

He said as an effort to combat the spread of such fraud cases, JSJK has implemented various commercial crime prevention activities through the Royal Malaysian Police Anti Scam Campaign (PDRM).

He said that in order to ensure that the message of commercial crime awareness can be conveyed to every level of society, JSJK has diversified its prevention activities, including casual chat programs, lectures and exhibitions at schools, houses of worship and universities.

"JSJK today created another twist in the implementation of the Anti Scam Campaign through collaboration with Syarikat Dream Film Sdn Bhd to produce an anti-scam film titled Oppa," he said in a speech at the launch of the anti-scam awareness film at the Cheras PDRM Academy, here, today this.

He said that one of the objectives of making the film was to spread knowledge about the modus operandi of online fraud syndicates more effectively to the public in addition to raising antiscam spirit among the community.

"Apart from that, it is to raise wider awareness to all sections of society to prevent them from becoming victims of fraud," he said.

The film, which will begin filming this April, will feature the male lead actor from South Korea, Jang Tae-Oh, in addition to a lineup of local actors.
