KUALA LUMPUR: Due to the desperation to stage an event, the vocalist of the OAG group, Radhi revealed that he had to borrow RM50,000 from Ah Long.
All for the realization of the 30th OAG Concert of my Generation at Malawati Stadium, Shah Alam, December, last year.
Radhi or his real name, Muhammad Radhi Razali, 46, said the situation became critical when on the day of the concert, which was at 3pm, the stage was still not ready due to budget problems.
"At 3pm on the day of the concert, the stage was not ready because we had no money. So, we decided to borrow from ah long even though we knew it was not a good idea.
"We had to borrow ah long because we want to continue the concert. That same day, Ah Long came from Penang and brought RM50,000.
"That money was used to build sets on the stage and other preparations for the concert. Otherwise, nothing will happen that night," he said at a special screening of an underground, urban and indie film called Pekik at P Ramlee Mini Cinema, National Film Development Corporation Complex (FINAS), Hulu Klang, recently. .
Radhi said that due to limited time and various other problems, the concert tickets staged to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the OAG had to be mostly given free.
"Honestly, we don't want to continue the concert due to lack of time. This is coupled with some other problems such as the cost of organizing.
"However, because of the fans, we continue with it. Many remember that the tickets are sold out, on the contrary, many are given free.
"If it is followed, it is possible to sell everything, but time is very limited," he said.
Meanwhile, Radhi considers the problems before the concert to be the cause of drummer Qi Razali's decision to leave the group.
However, Radhi explained that there was no conflict and that, equally, the decision made was respected by Qi.
“Actually, nothing happened between us and Qi. For me, what happened was due to personal matters only.
“We have absolutely no quarrel with Qi. In fact, just met a few days ago. However, Qi's decision to withdraw may have been influenced by the process of staging the concert.
"Imagine, the promotion for the concert was made for two months only, coupled with the 15th General Election (GE15) at that time, so tickets were not sold.
"Although at the beginning, Qi thought the concert could be successful, however, in the end, it did not achieve what he wanted," he said.
Earlier this year, Qi reportedly decided to leave the OAG group after 30 years together by uploading a video on Instagram (IG).
Qi, who is also an actor and host, is reported to have explained that his decision to leave OAG was not due to a dispute or disagreement with the band members involved.
