PUTRAJAYA: The man identified as Datuk Roy and a former Deputy Court Registrar who were remanded to assist in the investigation into the Jana Wibawa (Jana Wibawa) program, were released on Monday on bail from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The lawyer for the two individuals concerned, Fahmi Abd Moin, said Putrajaya Court Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin allowed the client to be released each with a surety and to report to the MACC office every month.

According to him, the MACC has obtained the necessary information from the two individuals involved and they are cooperating in the investigation.

"MACC has also recorded all the statements of interested witnesses and the client can be called at any time for further investigation if necessary.

"The defense attorney thanked the MACC and will ensure that the two men are present at any time to assist with the investigation," he said on Monday.

Datuk Roy was remanded for three days by the Kuala Lumpur Court on March 13 before being arrested again at the MACC Office, at 3.45pm, Wednesday.

The Kuala Lumpur magistrate ordered the man to be remanded to assist in the investigation into the Jana Wibawa fund.

The investigation of the Jana Wibawa case was conducted in accordance with Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

A total of four individuals, including an MACC officer, were arrested on suspicion of soliciting and accepting bribes amounting to RM400,000 to avoid investigations into the controversial program, but were later released on bail.

The former Deputy Registrar, aged in his 50s, was arrested when he appeared to testify at the Kuala Lumpur MACC office, at 9.30pm, last Friday, before being remanded for three days ending today.

He is suspected of trying to conspire to ask for a bribe amounting to about RM2 million, to help solve the MACC investigation case against a businessman who has been accused in connection with the project.

The suspect used to work as a Deputy Court Registrar in Putrajaya, before retiring in December 2021.
