KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim refused to use the Mercedes S600 that had been purchased and obtained by the Prime Minister's Department (JPM) for the Prime Minister's official use before he entered office.
"The step was taken because I don't want any new expenses to be made on me.
"On the contrary, I have decided to use whatever vehicles are available in the office for daily use," he said in a statement.
Anwar previously also announced that he would not take a salary and refused to do any renovations in his office.
He explained that this is because he wants to create a culture of not wasting government funds as practiced by previous administrations.
