Anwar's first media conference as Prime Minister held tonight

KAJANG - Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a public holiday on Monday following his successful leadership of the new government.

Anwar at his first press conference as Prime Minister tonight said that he had promised to implement the holiday on Monday.

"But it wasn't finished on Monday, so today it's finished and we'll bring it to Monday next week," he said.

Earlier, Anwar was confident that he would be the one to announce a public holiday after the results of the 15th General Election (GE15) were obtained on 19 November.

The belief that Pakatan Harapan (PH) will win GE15 and that he will become Prime Minister was said when he delivered a speech at the Mega Harapan Tour program at Dataran Taman Indah, Tampin, Negeri Sembilan on November 7.

In the meantime, he said, the unity government led by him placed the three largest components, namely Pakatan Harapan (PH), Barisan Nasional (BN), and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

According to him,, PH's (81) strength is the largest block in Parliament followed by BN (30) and GPS (22).

"We got confirmation from Abang Johari that they are together in the unity government.

"Therefore, the question of stability does not arise. Also participating are Warisan (3), Muda (1), and Bebas (PBM) (1)," he said.

Anwar said he did not rule out the possibility of other parties participating.

"I am still ready to accept everything else to make this country one.

"I am waiting for my friends from Perikatan Nasional (PN) even though the chairman's statement is not encouraging," he said.

Anwar also informed that the Parliament session will be held on December 19. First item on the agenda is the vote of confidence.

Anwar also confirmed he will not be taking a salary.
