Man jailed two years for abusing son

JOHOR BAHRU, September 28 -- A man was sentenced to two years’ jail by the Sessions Court here today for ill-treating his son causing the boy to be injured three years ago.
Judge Kamarudin Kamsun handed down the sentence on G. Viswanathan, 39, after finding the prosecution having established the case against him.
He was charged with committing the offence on the boy, who was then 13-years-old, at Jalan Camar Taman Perling, between February and October 2017.
The charge was framed under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
Kamarudin, however, allowed a request by Viswanathan, represented by lawyer A. Mathan, for a stay of execution of the sentence, pending an appeal at the High Court.
In allowing the stay, Kamarudin increased bail to RM40,000 with two sureties and for Viswanathan, who works in Singapore, to surrender his passport to the court.
