SEREMBAN, September 28 -- Yayasan Pembangunan Pondok Malaysia executive chairman and former deputy minister Datuk Dr Mashitah Ibrahim has been appointed to the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) board of directors for a two-year term effective today.

The USIM strategic communication centre, in a statement, said the appointment was made by Higher Education Minister Dr Noraini Ahmad to replace Ir Dr Muhamad Fuad Abdullah whose term ended on Sept 22.

Mashitah holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Tafseer and Hadith from Al-Azhar University, Egypt and Master’s Degree and PhD in Shariah Islamiyyah from Darul Ulum, Cairo University, and was a lecturer at International Islamic University Malaysia for 16 years from 1988 until 2004.

“The university is delighted and welcome this appointment as we believe her experience will be significant in bringing USIM towards achieving academic excellence,” the statement said.
