The Winners and Losers at Sabah Elections 2020 - UPKO's Poor Showing Propelled by PN & PBS Good Performance Helps BN Led GRS To Win It.

BEST FBKL: We predicted the results of 60 Seats Correctly, out of the total 73 Seats!

The official final results for the 16th Sabah state elections saw the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) pact winning it with a simple majority of 38 seats

The official tally is Warisan with 29 seats (including  DAP- 6), Perikatan Nasional (PN) 17, Barisan Nasional (BN) 14, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) seven, Independent candidates three, PKR two and Upko one.

Hence, PN, BN and PBS, which are allied under Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), won 38 seats against Warisan allied with DAP, Amanah, PKR and Upko — that won 32

As GRS emerged triumphant, Warisan Plus seemed to be still in a daze  after their shock defeat, Warisan chief Shafie Apdal did not concede defeat to the Opposition alliance of Gabungan Rakyat Bersatu (GRS).and reiterated that the “single biggest party is Warisan”. He won his Senallang seat.

Lets look at some of the results last night.

Parti Cinta Sabah’s president Anifah Aman was unsuccessful in his bid to win the Bongawan seat.
According to the official tally, the seat was retained by Warisan’s Daud Yusof, who polled 5,400 votes, followed by Anifah’s 3,598 and GRS (Gabungan Rakyat Sabah) AG Syairin 3,548

Perikatan Nasional (PN), which conceded the Pintasan state seat to Usno, receives a pleasant surprise.
This is after the Election Commission declared that PN, which is part of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) alliance, was the actual winner.PN-Bersatu’s Fairuz Renddan narrowly won the seat against Usno’s Pandikar Amin Mulia with an 84-vote majority. Fairuz, who is the Bersatu Youth assistant treasurer, secured 2,744 votes, Pandikar 2,660 votes and Warisan candidate Mohd Safian Saludin1,816 votes. In last place was Liberal Democratic Party’s Mohd Azree Abd Ghani, who polled 232 votes. Azree will not be retaining his deposit. The turnout rate for Bongawan was 77.84 percent.

The Kukusan seat was won with a paper thin 10-vote majority. Warisan’s Rina Jainal polled 2,834 votes, followed closely by BN-Umno Chaya Sulaiman with 2,824 votes. Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah’s Wong Jin Soon came in third, winning 796 votes, or 11.94 percent of the votes cast. Wong came just four votes shy of retaining his deposit. There were seven candidates for Kukusan – a new seat. The voter turnout for Kukusan, located near Tawau, was a dismal 53.97 percent.

Following Rina, BN's Yakub Khan won his seat with a 16 Vote Majority! Warisan Ahmad Jais will be having some sleepless night looking at his margin of loss.

The winner with the biggest Majority was Phoong Jin Zhe from Warisan - DAP with a majority of 15,510 in Luyang. The lady who won with the biggest Majority was Warisan -DAP's  Jannie Lasimbang in Kapayan with a majority of 13,163.

Six DAP incumbents retained n their seats in the Sabah election by a big margin. DAP won Luyang, Elopura, Likas, Kapayan, Tanjung Papat and Sri Tanjong.

Contributing Factors To Warisan Plus Loss.

Ketapi's Foot In The Mouth Statements:
Warisan’s Mohamaddin Ketapi won big in Segama despite shooting himself in the foot during the campaign period. According to the official results, he won with a majority of 2,168 votes. Previously, Mohamaddin had offended army voters for allegedly saying the Lahad Datu incursion was a “sandiwara” and Covid-19 Cases in Sabah was made up, right after the election it will be zero. His comments did not hurt his results but for sure it hurt candidates in other seats.

UPKO's Poor Performance:
Upko's poor performance in this election contributed to Warisan Plus loss, Upko President Wilfred Madius Tangau himself lost in Kiulu to PBS Jonston Bangkuai. They only won 1 out of 12 seats contested.

Poor Voter Turnout:
The poor voter turnout at 66.6% also contributed to Warisan Plus loss.

PN's Excellent Performance:
Perikatan Nasional peformed very well in this election, there is no doubt the likability factor of PM Tan Sri Muhyiddin contributed to their strong showing. It was a strong show of support for the PM. PN Sabah Chief Datuk Seri Hajiji retained his Sulaman seat which he has won since 1990

PBS Good Performance Was Like The Ole Days:
PBS led by President Maximus Ongkili also performed very well in this election potentially positioning itself as a King-maker if he ever decided to jump and join forces with Warisan Plus! Although that is very unlikely to happen.
