SINGAPORE, Aug 15 -- Singapore has preliminarily confirmed 81 new cases of COVID-19 infection for the past 24 hours with 16 imported cases, bringing the total tally to 55,661.

According to brief data released here by the republic’s Ministry of Health (MOH) today, 10 of the imported cases are from a vessel which arrived in Singapore on Aug 8.

"Prior to being conveyed to the hospital, all crew members had not disembarked from the vessel," it said.

The ministry noted that the rest of the imported cases had all been placed on Stay-Home Notice upon arrival in Singapore.

As for community cases, three cases were reported involving two Singaporeans or permanent residents and one work pass holder.

The vast majority of today's cases, meanwhile, are work permit holders currently under quarantine.

In its full data released late Friday, the ministry said there were about 21,300 workers still serving out their quarantine period.

As at noon yesterday, the republic had classified 784 of the reported cases as imported, 2,201 as community cases and 52,595 as dorm residents.

A total of 51,049 patients or about 92 per cent of the cumulative figure of cases have fully recovered from the infection and been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.

Meanwhile, 79 confirmed cases are still in hospital but none in the intensive care unit.

A total of 4,425 patients who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still tested positive for COVID-19, have been isolated and cared for at community facilities.

To date, 27 people have died from complications due to COVID-19 in the republic.

No new cluster was identified yesterday, and six more clusters have been closed.
