79 defiers of RMCO detained

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 29 -- Yesterday was the 81st day of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), yet there were still people who defied its regulations and the prescribed standard operating procedures (SOP).

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 79 individuals were arrested yesterday for breaching the RMCO Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO),where 51 of them were issued compound fines and four individuals were remanded.

“They were arrested for, among others, failure to provide equipment to register the entry and exit of customers, not wearing a face mask, attending private parties, and involvement in activities that make social distancing difficult, " he said in a statement on RMCO developments today.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said a total of 19,218 individuals have returned to Malaysia through the international border entrance and placed under quarantine at 70 hotels and five public training institutes (ILA), since July 24 until yesterday.

Of the total, 8,464 individuals are undergoing mandatory quarantine, 56 individuals were sent to hospitals for treatment and 10,380 were discharged, he added.

“They are from 32 countries, namely the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei, Qatar, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, India, United Arab Emirate, Japan, Turkey, South Korea, Iran, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Timor Leste, Taiwan, China, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Egypt, Spain, France, Australia, New Zealand and the United States of America,” he added.

Ismail Sabri, who is also Defence Minister, said the police mounted 64 roadblocks nationwide under Op Benteng yesterday and inspected 30,120 vehicles to curb the entry of illegal immigrants, especially along rat trails.

On public sanitation operation, Ismail Sabri said 11 operations were conducted yesterday in seven states, namely Melaka, Sabah, Sarawak, Kedah, Penang, Johor ang Kuala Lumpur involving 83 members from the Fire and Rescue Department and 135 others from other agencies.

He said checks were also conducted by enforcement officers from the Domestic Trade Consumer Affairs Ministry on the supply of 12 types of goods at 690 business premises, comprising retailers (504), wholesalers (157) and manufacturers (29).


The supply of the food items was found adequate to meet the country’s needs, he added.
