PUTRAJAYA, Aug 29 -- A man is in remand for three days from today to facilitate investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly giving bribes to an officer of the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) to transfer ownership of his company shares to a company owned by a friend using fake documents.

The remand order, which expires on Aug 31, was issued by Magistrate Shah Wira Abdul Halim.

According to a source, the man, aged 66, was arrested at the MACC headquarters here at 3 pm yesterday.

The case is investigated under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act which provides an imprisonment for up to 20 years and fine of not less than five time the amount of the bribe, or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if found guilty.
