PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos has been arrested in connection with his beer-smashing antics outside the Selangor state secretariat building.
Selangor CID chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat said in a statement on Friday that Jamal and seven other men were arrested in Sekinchan at 1.45am.
They will be brought to the Shah Alam court to be remanded.
Shah Alam police received complaints from security guards on Thursday following Jamal's protest outside the Selangor state secretariat building over the cancelled Better Beer Festival 2017.
Jamal had arrived at about 10am, with some 20 supporters and a pickup truck filled with crates of beer, only to find the gates closed.
The Red Shirts leader then proceeded to smash several crates of beer with a sledgehammer outside the gates.
After destroying the crates, Jamal and his group ignored calls by a security officer to not leave the broken bottles outside the gate.
Police are investigating the case under Section 143 of the Penal Code for unlawful assembly and Section 268 for public nuisance.
If found guilty, Jamal faces a jail term of up to six months or a fine, or both.
