Actor with ‘Datuk’ Title Arrested over RM6.2M Housing Scam
Three people, including a 37-year-old Datuk, were arrested for running a real estate scam that cheated its victims out of about RM6.2 million.
Police arrested a local actor and two others in relation to an affordable housing scam, in which investors were said to have been duped of some RM6.2 million.
The scam was carried out by DBI Properties and Juta Kelulut Global Resources, Bukit Aman Commercial CID director Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said in a statement today.
“THE TWO COMPANIES, DBI PROPERTIES AND JUTA KELULUT GLOBAL RESOURCES, HAD BEEN OFFERING SALES OF BUNGALOWS WITH EXTREMELY LOW PRICES OF RM60,000. HOWEVER ONCE THE PAYMENTS WERE MADE, THE CONSTRUCTION WOULD NOT BE COMPLETED,” ACRYL SAID.
Police received 188 reports from investors who were offered to purchase a 1,650-square-feet bungalow at the below-market price of RM60,000 but the houses were never built.
Following the reports, DBI Properties managing director Noruliman A Rahman, an actor who is popularly known as “Dato Boy Iman”, was arrested when he surrendered himself at the Bukit Indah police station in Ampang.
Police raided his office at Wisma DBI, Ampang, and seized a Nissan Fairlady, a BMW E92, three smartphones, a PhD certificate from the Samaritan Mission International University and documents belonging to DBI Properties.
Subsequently, police also arrested two owners of Juta Kelulut Global Resources, aged 29 and 45, at a condominium in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.
All three were remanded for two days, beginning yesterday, and were investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.
Acryl advised the public to be cautious of offers that seem too good to be true.
“Syndicates are becoming more cunning in manipulating the public into falling for such fake schemes. The public needs to be more careful in believing such offers,” he said.
He revealed that scammers these days manipulate the public based on their needs and develop all types of investments to attract the attention of possible victims.
He added that this was evident through the development of business, gold and housing schemes.
