JITRA: A car with a four-year-old girl still inside was stolen from a petrol station in Taman Mahsuri here after the child's father left the vehicle's engine running while he went to the toilet.

Thankfully, the suspect left the girl unharmed in front of a mosque some 30m away.

Kubang Pasu district police chief Supt Mohd Ismail Ibrahim said that the incident occurred around 7.45am Tuesday in the parking lot behind the service station where the toilet is located.

"When he came out from the toilet five minutes later, the car was missing. He found his daughter crying alone nearby," he said.

Supt Mohd Ismail said the vehicle was a black Honda Civic Hybrid with a "W 201 M" number plate.

He added that the suspect was caught on tape by the petrol station's CCTV system.

The suspect managed to get away with a notebook computer and RM1,000 cash that was in the car.

"From the CCTV footage, we believe three male suspects are involved. They were in a blue Proton Wira bearing Kedah registration plate KAW 1618," he said.

Supt Mohd Ismail said one of the suspects had gone to the toilet while their car was being refuelled.

"He looked around when he walked past the victim's car, and then came back and drove the car away. The blue Proton Wira followed him from behind," he said.

He added that the suspects' car was reported stolen in Pendang early the same morning.

"The suspect has been identified and he has many previous criminal records," he said, adding that they had launched a manhunt for the suspects.

Supt Mohd Ismail said the case would be investigated under Section 379A and 363 of the Penal Code.
