Zlatan Ibrahimovic rescued Manchester United this evening with a 93rd minute penalty to earn them a 1-1 draw at home to Everton.

Phil Jagielka looked to have scored the only goal of the game in the first half, but United were able to snatch a late point and record another 1-1 draw at Old Trafford - their sixth of the season.

Jose Mourinho's side had the chance to cut the gap on fourth place to just two points this evening, but for the most part were unable to break down a stubborn Everton side.

The home side went close early on with efforts from Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford, but both were unable to get the goal that would have undoubtedly settled United.

The opening goal came from a corner, after Kevin Mirallas forced a smart stop from David De Gea at the front post. A ball whipped into the area was flicked on by Ashley Williams.

Marcos Rojo was unable to get tight enough to Jagielka and as the ball dropped in the six yard box, the Everton defender got a touch on it. His flick went through the legs of the Spanish goalkeeper and into the net.

United went in search of a rapid equaliser and almost had it through Daley Blind. The Dutch defender had his freekick saved by Joel Robles and the Ander Herrera sent the rebound off the bar.

Robles was again on hand to deny Herrera before the break, turning the Spaniard's shot from range past the post.

Substitute Paul Pogba went close after the break, his header came off the bar from Ashley Young's terrific cross.

Ibrahimovic struggled to make any sort of impact in the first half, but as Mourinho began to throw the kitchen sink at Everton, he was afforded more chances.

The Swede then had the ball in the net, but was ruled offside in what was an incredibly tight call for the linesman.

United looked out of ideas and were relying on Fellaini as they reverted to route, but were awarded a penalty in the 93rd minute of the game.

Luke Shaw, who came on for Young after the interval, had his shot from the edge of the area blocked by Ashley Williams' arm. The former Swansea defender was sent off for a deliberate handball.

Ibrahimovic stepped up to slot home into the bottom right hand corner to earn United a point.

Sunderland's fight for survival went from bad to worse this evening as David Moyes' side were beaten 2-0 at the King Power Stadium.

Already under firer from his comments made to BBC reporter, Moyes watched his side lose their 20th game this season. Second-half goals from Islam Slimani and Jamie Vardy handed the home side three points.

Leicester have now moved into the top half of the table with the result.

Watford solidified their position in the top half of the table this evening with a 2-0 win over West Brom at Vicarage Road.

The home side took the lead after 13 minutes thanks to Milan loanee, Mbaye Niang. His shot into the corner of the net from the edge of the box gave the home side a half-time lead.

Troy Deeney doubled their advantage five minutes after the restart to secure the points for the home side.

George Boyd's first-half goal helped Burnley take a huge step away from the relegation zone as they beat Stoke City 1-0 at Turf Moor.

Ireland's Jeff Hendrick was on hand to grab the assist to bring their points tally up to 35 points. One more win should be enough to guarantee their Premier League safety.
