The Malaysian motorcyclists were sheltering from the rain under a flyover when the accident happened at 3.50pm.




PETALING JAYA: A van slammed into a group of nine Malaysian motorcyclists sheltering from the rain under a flyover at the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) in Singapore today.

Two Malaysian motorcyclists were killed in the accident. The Malaysians aged 34 and 50, died on the spot, Bernama reported.

Their identities were not available immediately.


Bernama sources said six other motorcyclists, who sustained head and body injuries, were also Malaysians and were sent to the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

“The other motorcyclist escaped injuries.

“The 25-year-old van driver is a Singaporean,” a source told Bernama.

In its update on Facebook, the Singapore Police Force said a 25-year-old van driver was detained to facilitate investigations after the accident at 3.50pm.

It said the man’s driving licence would be suspended with immediate effect.
