PETALING JAYA: PKR politician Bill Kayong was reportedly shot in the neck as he stopped his pick-up truck at the traffic light junction in Senadin, about 20km north of Miri city, on Tuesday.
The Toyota truck, still bearing the PKR election logo, was found riddled with bullet holes on the driver’s side at about 9.20am near the E-Mart supermarket on Permyjaya-Kuala Baram road.
Kayong, the Miri PKR branch secretary, was found slumped in the driver’s seat, with injuries on his face and neck.
Kayong had been a vociferous advocate of social issues and had banked on NCR land issues in the state elections when he contested in the Bekenu seat against Rosey Yunus of Barisan Nasional and independents, Jou @ Peter Jelin and Austin Sigi Melu.
His death has sent shockwaves across the state.
PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said she was shocked by the shooting and urged members to remain calm and allow the police to conduct investigations.
MIRI: A PKR leader was shot dead at a traffic light junction in the Kuala Baram district about 20kms north of the city on Tuesday.
Bill Kayong, the political secretary to Miri MP Dr Michael Teoh, was shot at about 9am as he stopped his pick-up truck at the busy junction in front of the E Mart commercial centre in Senadin.
PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said it received information that its member, Bill Kayong, who contested in the Bekenu seat in the recent state elections, had been shot.
Dr Teoh, who is Miri PKR chairman, was at the scene with Sarawak DAP secretary Alan Ling and SUPP secretary general Datuk Sebastian Ting.
