PETALING JAYA: The owner of a nightclub, where a hand grenade was tossed early today injuring eight people, believes the attack was a personal dispute involving two of its patrons.

Owner of the Movida pub at the IOI Boulevard, Roger Hew said a preliminary investigation of the incident showed that it involved two patrons, an Indian couple, who were targeted due to personal matters.

“An eyewitness saw two Indian men throw an explosive at the said couple.

“This is an isolated case and does not in any way indicate that the attack is derived from any religion, belief or race.

“The said couple are stable and suffered minor injuries,” he said in a Facebook post, Malaysiakini reported.

The attack at the pub at 1.30am this morning came while patrons were watching the Euro 2016 games.

Among them, was a couple celebrating their wedding anniversary.

A member of the self-styled Islamic State (IS) has also reportedly claimed that the militant group was responsible for this morning’s grenade attack in Puchong, claiming it was aimed at vice activities during the Ramadan month.

Police are still checking whether there was any truth to this. Earlier, it was reported that police were investigating the attack based on business rivalry or a personal dispute.
