Copper killed as patrol car crashes into steel roll

MARAN: A policeman was killed and another seriously injured when the patrol car they were travelling in, crashed into a steel roll which fell off a trailer lorry at the 153.8km East Coast Highway (LPT) near here today.
Sergeant Che Omor Ab Ghani, 53, of the special branch at the Bera police headquarters died on the spot in the 6am crash.
His superior, Bera special branch chief, ASP Zulkifli Nasir sustained serious injuries.
Maran police chief DSP Mat Rizal Mat Radzi said initial investigations revealed the accident at the Chenor-Maran stretch occurred when the east-bound vehicle failed to avoid a steel roll which was dislodged from the lorry and on to the fast lane.
He said the body was sent to the Jengka Hospital while Zulkifli was warded at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Temerloh Hospital. – Bernama
