Datuk Shamsubahrin Ismail, who was recently found guilty of cheating and 17 counts of money laundering, claimed he has official papers to back his claims that Putrajaya was protecting Shahrizat and her husband, NFCorp executive chairman Datuk Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail.
“There is a conspiracy going on now to bring me down,” Shamsubahrin told reporters at his office here.
Shamsubahrin claimed the proof of conspiracy comes in a form of a letter sent to him by the Finance Ministry, asking him to speak to Salleh and get his approval for the former's takeover of the National Feedlot Centre (NFC) project.
The former NFC consultant alleged that he had made known his intention of taking over the cattle breeding project, including its RM250 million debt, prior to his conviction.
“Why I say there is a conspiracy? Because why would the MoF ask me to talk to Salleh? Why ask me to go to a company that is not even there when the money is actually owed to the government?
“That is the conspiracy… it shows that they are trying to protect Salleh's family,” he said.
He did not, however, explain how the letter and the claims of conspiracy were related to his conviction.
Shamsubahrin was charged on December 30, 2011, with five counts of cheating a total of RM1.75 million.
He was also charged on June 18, 2012, with 17 counts of money laundering.
The Sessions Court on May 18 this year found the former NFC consultant guilty of cheating and 17 counts of money laundering.
Going on rant, Shamsubahrin blamed the conspiracy to make him a scapegoat for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who he accused of trying to protect Shahrizat.
However, the former NFC Corp consultant sang praises for Najib’s deputy Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin whom he claimed had approved his plan to take over the NFC project.
“It was all smooth when dealing with his office,” he said.
Shamsubahrin then said the problem only came from the MoF, which he pointed out was under Najib’s control.
Shahrizat is an ardent supporter of Najib. Due to her links with NFC, Shahrizat was forced to step down as the women, community and family development minister but was retained as the PM’s advisor.
