Man arrested after single mother who joined a MLM lost RM80,000 and was sexually assaulted

Single mum claims sexual assault by mentor and sacking at MLM

KUALA LUMPUR: A single mother joined a multi-level marketing company (MLM) to help make ends meet. Instead she lost RM80,000 that she had worked hard for and was sexually assaulted by the man mentoring her.
    M. Thamilchelvy, 45, said the incident drove her to the brink of suicide, especially when her attacker threatened to make public the images he had recorded during the assault.
He also had her contract with the company terminated.
A relative stopped her from taking her own life.
She said the man, known as “Guruji” which means teacher, asked her to meet him for a discussion at his office in Taman Melawati on Feb 23.
She was told that they would talk about her goal of owning a new BMW, she said, adding that he also told her that there would be other women present.
Thamilchelvy said that when she arrived there, she was led to a small room in the office and was offered a glass of orange juice. Guruji said they were waiting for the other women.
After the drink, she said she started feeling drowsy and passed out.
When she woke up, Guruji was performing oral sex on her and fondling her breasts.
“I was shocked and started screaming at him. Then he started hugging me and tried to kiss me.
“When I refused to go along, he showed me the phone in his hand and told me that he had recorded everything,” she said, crying, as she related the incident to The Staryesterday.
“I don’t know what he recorded. I was unconscious. Whether he recorded my naked body or whether he raped me, or whether he called another person to rape me, I don’t know.”
Thamilchelvy said that Guruji threatened to put the images on social media and that he would terminate her contract if she told anyone about the incident.
“I was not brave to tell this to anyone, to report this to the police, to my friends or anybody. I could not open my mouth. It was killing me everyday, it’s really painful,” she said.
But despite that, she was sacked from the company on March 17, apparently for being an hour late for a meeting with its top management at a Petaling Jaya hotel.
She claimed that the real reason for her contract getting terminated was because she had brought other people with her to the meeting.
“I was supposed to meet five men there, including Guruji.
“I didn’t dare go alone. I brought my eldest daughter and two of my downliners,” she said.
When she walked in, the men immediately left. Later she got an SMS from the company telling her that she had been sacked.
She claimed that none of the money she earned during her six months of employment at the company was ever paid to her.
“I had also been persuaded to invest some of it in the company,” she said.
Thamilchelvy tried to kill herself after that.
“Luckily my cousin stopped me. I was taken to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah hospital,” she said.
Her daughter, 20, then lodged a police report.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Khairuldin Saad said a 54-year-old man was arrested yesterday evening over the case. The suspect will be remanded and police were investigating under Section 354 of the Penal Code for outraging a woman’s modesty, he said.
It was learned that there were also more than 20 police reports lodged in the Klang Valley and Kedah against the company.
