NIBONG TEBAL: For the past eight years, P. Joshua (pic) has been driving around without a licence, beating traffic lights, driving without side mirrors and altering his number plates.
The 26-year-old salesman chalked up 89 traffic summonses, 44 of which resulted in warrants.
The long arm of the law finally caught up with him yesterday and Joshua pleaded guilty and was slapped with RM16,200 in fines by the magistrate’s court here.
When he told the court that he could not pay the fines, magistrate Roshidah Baharom jailed him for 222 days in default.
Joshua will also not be allowed to renew his driving licence for a year for not having an insurance for his car.
Joshua was arrested at a roadblock during Ops Warta in Batu Kawan last week.
In the same court, Joshua pleaded not guilty to crashing into a motorcyclist in Jalan Batu Kawan last November.
He was alleged to have committed the offence while under the influence of alcohol.
The 29-year-old male victim died in January.
The offence carries a jail sentence of between three and 10 years and a fine of between RM8,000 and RM20,000.
Roshidah allowed Joshua bail of RM4,000 and fixed mention for June 16 to allow him time to get a lawyer.
