Former model and actress-singer Noor Kumalasari Mohamad Taib said it was very unlike the Singapore-born Anita – who also has a large fan base across the border – to suddenly disappear and not keep in touch with either family or friends for such a long period of time.
She said Anita’s best friend had gone to the singer’s home in the US but was unable to track her down, adding that calls and text messages to the multi-award winning performer have all gone unanswered. and doing well. Known for her deep, rich vocals and an effervescent stage persona and personality, 63-year-old Anita spent 18 years performing at the Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas before returning to Singapore and Malaysia in 2003.
She was last based in Kuala Lumpur where she hosted a local TV programme before she moved to Las Vegas again in 2013 with her fourth husband, British national Mohamad Mahathir Abdullah.
Anita’s late mother, Siput Sarawak, was originally from Sarawak and was a prominent celebrity in the 1950s and 60s, while her late father S. Roomai Noor was a veteran actor and director. – May 21, 2015.
