Reintroduced after a two-year development programme and an investment of about US$80 million (RM288 million), the new seats on Premium Economy class were unveiled today.
The seats will have a width of either 18.5 or 19.5 inches depending on aircraft type, compared to their 18-inch-wide Economy class counterparts, along with an 8-inch recline and a seat pitch of 38 inches.
They will also have full leather finishing, a calf-rest, foot-bar and in-seat power supply for each seat, two USB ports, a personal in-seat reading light, cocktail table and increased stowage space for personal items.
Additionally, Premium Economy Class will allow customers to advance order a selection of main courses under the “Book the Cook” service, alongside an extensive range of food and beverage offerings.
Pre-flight, customers will get priority check-in and baggage handling with a baggage allowance of 35kg. KrisFlyer Frequent flyers will also get 10 per cent more miles when flying in Premium Economy class.
The in-flight entertainment experience has also been upgraded with active noise-cancelling headphones and a 13.3-inch full HD monitor, the largest in its class, Singapore Airlines said in a statement.
Singapore Airlines Executive Vice President Commercial Mak Swee Wah said: “Many of our customers have been asking for a Premium Economy offering and we are confident that what we are delivering will exceed their expectations.”
The new class will be progressively introduced on 19 Airbus A380s, 19 Boeing 777-300ERs and the first 20 Airbus A350s.
It will enter commercial service on Aug 9 to Sydney, before being introduced to other destinations such as Beijing, Delhi, Hong Kong, Frankfurt, London, Mumbai, New York, Shanghai, Tokyo and Zurich.— Today
