Neglected teen with palsy discharged from Seremban hospital

PETALING JAYA, July 25 — The 15-year-old disabled teenager who was found abandoned and in a deplorable condition has been discharged from the Tuanku Jaafar Hospital in Seremban.
The boy, who suffers from cerebral palsy, was discharged at 9.40am yesterday.
A Welfare Department spokesman said the boy’s health had improved tremendously and he was healthy.
“He has put on weight. His current weight is 22kg,” the spokesman said.
The teenager weighed a mere 15kg when he was found during an Immigration Department raid at the low-cost flats in Nilai.
He was taken to the Seremban magistrate’s court yesterday to obtain a court order to temporarily place him under the care of the Welfare Department.
The month-long temporary custody was given under the Children’s Act 2001, which allows the boy to be housed in Taman Sinar Harapan Ampuan Najihah in Seremban.
“We have yet to confirm where he will be placed after that,” the spokesman said.
The teenager was discovered by Immigration Department officers in horrible conditions at a low-cost flat unit in Taman Semarak, Nilai on June 21.
He was believed to have been abandoned by his mother, who claimed she was unable to find a nanny to look after him.

His mother, 40-year-old Lolanopita Sadi, was arrested the following day.
The catering assistant, who works at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, was then charged with abandoning and neglecting her child at the Sessions Court in Seremban on June 27.
She was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a fine not exceeding RM20,000 or a maximum of 10 years in jail, or both, for abandoning her child leading to physical and emotional injuries between January and June 2 this year.
On the second charge, she was alleged to have intentionally left her child unattended in inhospitable conditions on the same date in Nilai and is charged under Section 33(c) of the same Act, which carries a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or maximum two years jail, or both, if convicted.
