Two Indonesians slashed, beaten to death in front of shopping mall in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: Two Indonesians were slashed and beaten to death by a group of men in front of a shopping mall in Bukit Jambul here.
The men, identified as Muhammad Junaidi, 26, and Aidin, 20, were sitting outside the complex when the group, believed to be also Indonesians, attacked them in 6.30pm incident Sunday.
Muhammad Junaidi, who was bashed up with a helmet and slashed near his ribs, died on the spot.
Aidin died on the way to the Penang Hospital. He was believed to have been bludgeoned with a hammer.
Police recovered a parang at the scene believed to be the weapon used in the attack.

Penang CID chief Senior Asst Comm Mazlan Kesah said police were investigating the motive of the attack.
He added that the case has been classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
SAC Mazlan urged witnesses to come forward and shed light on the incident.

GEORGE TOWN: The two Indonesian men found murdered in front of a shopping mall in Bukit Jambul were cleaners at the Tabung Haji Complex in Bayan Lepas.
Penang CID chief Senior Asst Comm Mazlan Kesah said they would interview the colleagues, friends and family members of the victims to get to the bottom of the matter.
He said one of the victim’s sister is married to a local and stays in Butterworth.
“We need to know their circle of friends to establish the motive.
“By interviewing their friends and family members, it can help us to narrow down the possible angles in carrying our probe.
“It could be just a misunderstanding between two group of people that led to the tragic fight,” he said at the Penang police open house at George Town district headquarters on Monday.
On Sunday, Muhammad Junaidi, 26 and Aidin, 20, were stabbed and beaten up to death by a group of men believed to be Indonesians.
They were said to be sitting outside the complex when the group of assailants attacked them during the 6.30pm incident.
Muhammad Junaidi, who was bashed up with a helmet and stabbed near his ribs, died on the spot.
Aidin suffered from blows using a hammer and died on the way to the Penang Hospital.
Forensic police also recovered a parang at the scene, believed to be the weapon used in the attack.
SAC Mazlan said they have since informed Muhammad Junaidi’s sister of his death.
The case has been classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
SAC Mazlan urged witnesses of the incident to go to the nearest police stations and shed light on the murder.
