The Shangri-La continued to do with what it does best... by continuing to give diners a huge variety of buffet dishes. They had the usual Chinese, Indian, Western, Japanese, Italian stations but added an Arabic & BBQ by the terrace stations.
They added Malay salads, kampong side dishes, Bubur Lambuk and a whole variety of Malay Kuih and Daging Masak Hitam.
They had a glorious looking whole lamb hanging majestically over the Nasi Briyan. As diners scooped their nasi briyani the Chefs would carve the lamb and let them pieces drop onto your scoop. You cannot get it any fresher than that.
They has great tasting serunding that melted in your mouth. I particularly enjoyed this.
The Station of the Night was the Japanese station. They had the freshest Japanese fare on offer. Guest made a beeline for this counter from start to finish. We noted one female diner, compiling no less than 20 huge oysters on her plate. Oysters were huge, juicy and extremely fresh. The Chefs keep refilling the counter generously never delaying for a moment. The Sushi and Sashimi was simply superb. The array of Crabs, Prawns, Shellfish and cold cuts completed the fare.
But the star of the night for all the reviewers was the succulent roast duck. I had to ask my fellow reviewers three times if i was actually eating duck. It simply melted in your mouth and was full of flavor. I wanted to go for seconds but had to remind myself this was a review! At the western station, the beef steaks were prepared very well that they were tender and juicy. The fish and asparagus with creamy sauce was really heavenly
The Chinese section was another crowd favorite, with its variety of dim sum, fried rice, steamed fish, Chicken & Seafood dishes smothered in their secret recipe sauces. The noodle station completed the fare.
The Indian section had all the usual suspects, Tandoori Chicken was nice and made to perfection while the Fish, Chicken and Lamb Curries were full of flavor. They had quite a number of vegetarian dishes here too.
The Italian section had a huge variety of Pizzas , Pastas and Cheese!
The service wow factor of the night was when i enquired with a staff, how come i could not find any cheese on the buffet, obviously the crowds had finished all of it..as the place was bustling, she told me not to worry and to go back to my seat as brought me a mix cheeze platter. Which she duly did, that is excellent service for you.
The Dessert station had hot-of- the skillet Apam Balik, Cempedak Goreng and Goreng Pisang being made. They had all the usual malay kuih favorites. The western desserts was there too from cupcakes to creme puffs. Two huge chocolate fountains kept those with sweet tooths very happy. Again here diners were devouring the chocolates like there was no tomorrow, i was seriously expecting a fight with all the elbows knocking into each other
Shangri-La even had a gluten free section for those with special food needs.
The Majestic Whole Lamb Briyani, The Full Blown Japanese section, The fat Oysters, The Roast Duck and The wide variety of Desserts alone makes the Lemon Garden Cafe A must visit spot!
