Daughter kills mum in attack

KUALA LUMPUR: A 74-year-old woman is believed to have been murdered by her own daughter, who beat and hacked her in the face during a fight in their Jalan Sentul home.
Police said the neighbours heard a quarrel between the elderly woman and her 45-year-old daughter at about 9am on Friday.
Later at 10.30am, a family member who came for a visit found the woman lying in a pool of blood.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm R. Munusamy said the police and ambulance were called to the scene, saying that the woman was hacked in the face but died of blunt trauma to the head.
“We found her lying on a mattress on the fourth floor of their shophouse with hack marks on the left side of her face. We believe that the suspect had used a kitchen knife.
“The body has been sent for post-mortem at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
“Her daughter will be remanded until Aug 1 to assist in investigations,” ACP Munusamy said, adding that the daughter was suffering from depression.
The victim had four other children, said her neighbours, but she lived alone and cared for her mentally unstable daughter.
“They worked at a lighting shop owned by the mother’s sister on the ground floor of the shophouse. The mother was a very nice woman. She would always greet and chat with us when we passed by,” said a neighbour, who only wanted to be known as Kamala.
“Her daughter is very quiet. She just keeps to herself. They would always quarrel at home. I don’t know what they fought about.
“I never expected that they would end up fighting until someone died,” she said.
