SIBU: A 45-year-old Russian was sentenced to six months in jail and fined RM1,000 on Wednesday for outraging the modesty of a sales girl here.
The accused, Sergei Zloodev, pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 354 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail sentence of up to 10 years plus fine or whipping or both if convicted.
According to the brief facts, at 8.43pm on July 25, the victim, Sally Sia, 20, was at work at a jewellery shop in Wisma Sanyan when the accused showed up.
Zloodev, who was here for a shipping deal, had asked the victim to pack a watch which he had just bought into a box.

When the victim told him that they do not provide such service, the accused then touched her breast and laughed.
Based on a police report lodged by the victim, a police team led by Kpl Litor Ngindang, went to the shopping complex at 9.15pm to arrest the accused.
In his mitigation before Magistrate Saiful Ayoti, Zloodev pleaded for a lenient sentence, saying that it was his first offence and that he is married with one daughter.
