JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested a 35-year-old man as part of the on-going investigations into the murder case of Estonian model Regina Soosalu in Mersing yesterday.
The suspect from Kuala Lumpur is believed to be linked to the deceased and was picked up in Mersing by a police team about 4pm.
Johor criminal investigations department chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan said this brings the number of those arrested to seven.
He said police had also extended the remand for four suspects to July 27, while two others will be until July 24 for investigations.
Soosalu, who was in her 20s, was found dead facing down on the beach at Pulau Rawa on July 1, the same day she arrived at the island resort in Mersing.
Initial police investigations assumed she drowned, but bruises on her neck were similar to strangulation, which prompted them to reclassify the case from sudden death to murder, on July 9.
Hasnan said police are still looking into several angles in the scope of their investigations.
