Police: Stolen MyKad found on suspect killed in shootout
KUALA LUMPUR: The robbery suspect who was shot dead after a shootout with police in Brickfields here has yet to be identified.
City deputy CID chief Asst Comm Khairi Ahrasa said the MyKad was genuine, but the photograph did not match the suspect’s.
“It was found inside the man’s wallet, surmising that it must have been stolen by the suspect,” he said.
“The black BMW that he and his two accomplices were travelling in was also reported stolen in Kelana Jaya on Dec 1,” he added.
“We believe they obtained the car the same way they were attempting before we intercepted them, which is breaking into and robbing homes,” ACP Khairi said yesterday.
“We have obtained the man’s fingerprints and are trying to establish his identity through that.”
The man, in his 20s, was shot dead at around 4.30am on Sunday after he and two others broke into a house and tied up a 60-year-old manager, his wife and their daughter during an attempted robbery.
A police response team reached the scene 20 minutes later. The officers were reportedly shot at and returned fire. Besides killing the suspect, another was injured while the third suspect managed to escape.
ACP Khairi said the injured accomplice had yet to be interrogated as he was being treated at the University Malaya Medical Centre.
Later, city police conducted an Ops Cantas targeting fradulent security guards who did not have necessary documents.
Some 115 police officers scoured Brickfields, Sentul, Cheras and Dang Wangi districts, including shopping malls and housing areas, during the six-hour operation.
A total of 135 foreign guards were inspected with 76 arrested for offences like possession of fake MyKad and improper documents.
