KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia hopes that China will reciprocate the 30-day visa exemption facility for citizens of this country as Malaysia has given to Chinese citizens, said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

He said for now, China provides facilities for Malaysians to visit the country without a visa for 15 days.

"We ask that it be based on reciprocity. When we give 30 days, we ask China to also give 30 days.

"This makes it easier for Malaysians to have contact with the people of the country, to travel and for those who have a business basis to go there," he said during a question and answer session at the National Assembly today.

He answered a question from Prof Emeritus Datuk Seri Dr Awang Sariyan who wanted to know what steps were being taken to improve people-to-people and government-to-government relations between Malaysia and China.

Malaysia granted a visa exemption for a period of 30 days to Chinese and Indian citizens to visit through the Visa Liberalization Plan (PLV) which came into effect on Dec 1 last year.
