JAKARTA: Indonesian President Joko Widodo is expected to begin official duties in the country's new capital, Nusantara, located on Kalimantan Island, on July 28, Xinhua reported.
Head of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono made the announcement on Wednesday.
The president is scheduled to inaugurate a highway on July 28 and "we are in the process of making all the necessary preparations so that the president can start working in the new capital," the official said.
Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Public Works and Housing and Acting Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority, confirmed that the drinking water supply will be ready for use in the next few days in the new capital.
"Currently, drinking water has flowed to the new capital and has passed the third test, which will soon be distributed to residential and office areas in the archipelago," he said.
In addition, the authorities are preparing for the celebration of Indonesian Independence Day, which will take place simultaneously in the archipelago and Jakarta in August.
