KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened investigation papers against a man who issued a statement allegedly insulting Islam, the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).

Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said, a total of 21 investigation papers have been opened against the man known as N Ganesparan.

According to him, preliminary investigations found that the man is now believed to be in Hamburg, Germany after he last went out on November 2, 2017.

The video that Ganesparan uploaded on social media on March 23 claimed, among other things, that the PDRM is quick to take action against Chinese people who insult Islam.

However, he said, the same action was not taken against some individuals such as Zakir Naik, Firdaus Wong and Zamri Vinoth who allegedly insulted non-Islamic religions.

"As a result of the investigation, the police found that the content of the posting could cause public annoyance," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

The case was investigated in accordance with Section 298A and Section 504 of the Penal Code as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

In the video lasting more than two minutes, the man made several racist and religious statements while touching on several issues in Malaysia.

Among them, he claimed that the 3R issue (religion, race and king) only works for non-Muslims.
