KUALA LUMPUR: The explanatory proceedings related to the decision to acquit Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi of 47 charges should be broadcast live.
The proposal was voiced by Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (PH - Gombak) who thought that the effort would allow the people to hear for themselves and understand the issue which is now receiving widespread attention.
According to him, he hopes that the Special Parliamentary Select Committee (JKPK) on Human Rights, Elections and Institutional Reform will give consideration to the proposal because the case has become a people's issue.
"I believe the JKPK process of Human Rights, Elections and Institutional Reform should be held as a 'live telecast' or a public hearing that can be heard by the people because it has become a people's issue.
"I don't want to defend anyone here, if it's wrong (it's still) wrong, that's why I request that the hearing is not attended by Members of Parliament only.
"It should be done through an open hearing so that all parties can hear the Attorney General's explanation," he said.
Apart from Amirudin, several Members of Parliament also touched on the DNAA issue involving Ahmad Zahid including Lim Guan Eng (PH - Bagan), Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (PN-Pagoh), Khairil Nizam Khirudin (PN-Jerantut), and Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang (PN - To Marang).
Chairman of the Parliamentary Special Select Committee on Human Rights, Elections and Institutional Reform William Leong Jee Keen on Tuesday said the committee would summon AG Ahmad Terrirudin to provide an explanation regarding Ahmad Zahid's DNAA decision.
He said former Attorney General Tan Sri Idrus Harun will also be called to give an explanation and a report will be presented after the proceedings are carried out.
In the meantime, regarding the separation of the role of the Attorney General and the Public Prosecutor, Amirudin urged the Federal Government to immediately implement the agenda involved.
