PUTRAJAYA, June 12 (Bernama) -- The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) will gradually no longer accept checks and Money Orders/Postal Orders (MOPO) as receipt instruments for direct tax payments at all IRB Receipt Management Centers (PPTH), Payment Counters Stamp Duty, banks and post offices that are the IRB's payment collection agents, started  last June 1.

The IRB in a statement today said exemptions are however given to income tax payments for advance payments and installments of audit cases, investigations and civil lawsuits using Checks/Post Dated Checks (PDC) that have been submitted to the IRB before 1 August 2023.

According to him, the exemption of the cessation of acceptance of MOPO as a receipt instrument for direct tax payments is also given for the payment of a two percent tax deduction against the payment of commission by the paying company to an agent, distributor or distributor as under Section 107D, Income Tax Act 1967.

The IRB said the payment channels that will be involved in the implementation of the suspension of check acceptance and MOPO are PPTH Payment Counters in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu; bank and Pos Malaysia payment counters that are IRB collection agents; check deposit machines (CDM) at banks that are

collection agents of the IRB; income tax payments sent by post or courier; and the stamp duty payment counter at the Satellite Office or the State Stamp Office.

After 1 August 2023, the IRB said that direct tax payments for PPTH channels, agent banks and post offices using bill numbers or tax identification numbers (TIN) can be carried out through the payment medium of bank draft or cash.

"The medium for Stamp Duty payment at the Stamp Duty Payment Counter at the Satellite Office or State Stamp Office after July 1, 2023 is made using bank drafts only," according to the statement.

According to him direct tax payment can be carried out by using the bill number or TIN through an online payment medium through the MyTax Portal at https://mytax.hasil.gov.my . or the internet banking portal of the agent bank.

It can also be made in cash through Pos Malaysia Counters, agent banks, agent bank cash deposit machines; certain agent bank automated teller machines; or through Telegraphic Transfer, Electronic Fund Transfer and Interbank Giro Transfer (IBG) using the e-TT System for taxpayers who have bank accounts in Malaysia and also taxpayers who have bank accounts outside Malaysia.
