KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) seized two bank accounts of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) after freezing them last January.

The MACC in a statement today informed that the confiscation action was made on April 11 after it submitted an order in accordance with Section 50 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorist Financing and Proceeds of Illegal Activities Act (AMLATFPUAA 2001) to the bank.

"Previously, the accounts involved were frozen on 12 and 13 Jan last in accordance with Section 44 AMLATFPUAA 2001 to assist investigations into money suspected of illegal proceeds.

"Following that, the MACC implemented the seizure action on 11 April 2023 in relation to the investigation and charges against Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin under the MACC Act 2009 and AMLATFPUAA 2001," according to the statement.

The statement was issued in response to a news report by a media agency titled Bersatu asks MACC why two accounts still frozen after 90 days that was published yesterday.
