KUALA TERENGGANU: The Taman Rakyat Cluster, a new Covid-19 cluster in Terengganu, stems from an inter-state travel of a man from Sabah to attend his younger sibling’s wedding which did not comply with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Terengganu Health Director Dr Nor Azimi Yunus said a total of 26 cases were detected positive for Covid-19 from the cluster, comprising 11 family members and 15 guests who attended the wedding.

“That’s why we always advise to postpone events that involve large group of people....We should all comply with the prescribed SOPs,” she said in a Facebook posting yesterday.

Currently there are 238 active Covid-19 cases in Terengganu with the highest number of cases recorded in Besut , which is 127, followed by Kuala Nerus (43), Dungun (27), Kuala Terengganu (27), Hulu Terengganu (seven), Marang (four) and Setiu. (three).

The Taman Rakyat cluster, registered on April 15, is a community cluster involving the Dungun district. The index case for the cluster was a 32-year-old man who tested positive for Covid-19 on April 6 when screened before returning to Sabah.
