ALOR SETAR, April 25 -- The Kedah police have received a brand new fleet of 30 Toyota Hilux GS-Cargo Single Cab 2.4, worth over RM4 million to replace the old vehicles that have exceeded their age limit.

Bukit Aman Logistic and Technology Department director Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said the vehicles are for common usage of the state police.

“Overall, we receive 400 units of Toyota Hilux nationwide. Kedah has received 30 vehicles, where 28 of them are for the Kedah Contingent, and one each for the Langkawi Police Training Centre as well as the Langkawi Region One Marine Police Force Operation Base.

“The vehicles will be used in assignments such as roadblocks, transporting bodies and goods. They are also equipped with additional accessories, including digital recorder and first aid kits,” he said after the handing over ceremony of the vehicles at the Kedah contingent police headquarters, here, today.

Mazlan said in total, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has 27,307 vehicles that are being used nationwide, 18,279 of which have exceeded their age limit, and would be replaced in stages.

Meanwhile, Kedah police chief Datuk Hasanuddin Hassan said, the new vehicles would ensure that tasks can be executed more effectively, as well as boost the image of PDRM.

In another development, Hasanuddin said stern action would be taken against those caught forging interstate travel permit.

“I have ordered all officers and personnel to tighten control at existing roadblocks,” he said.
