KUALA LUMPUR: The transfers of several senior police officers which were postponed last week have gone ahead without any problems.

Previously, one of the transfers involving the post of Kuala Lumpur police chief was supposed to have taken place last Friday (April 9) but was postponed on the order of the Police Force Commission (SPP).

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said the handing-over ceremony for the Kuala Lumpur police chief's post went on smoothly on Tuesday (April 13).

"Comm Datuk Saiful Azly Kamaruddin handed over the reins to Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim, who was previously the Management Department deputy director.

"It is true that I have ordered all transfers involving senior police officers to resume as previously planned," he said when contacted on Thursday (April 15).

The IGP said other transfers will also take place nationwide soon including the post of Selangor CID chief, which will be helmed by former Petaling Jaya OCPD Senior Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal.

The transfers within the police force became a contentious issue when the transfer order which was issued last month was suddenly postponed last Friday.

There had been talk that the postponement was in connection with an order from Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, who is also the SPP chairman.

However, Hamzah denied that he had intervened on police matters, especially on the transfer of senior police officers.

Hamzah said the transfers were decided by the SPP and it was a coincidence that he was also SPP chairman.

It is learnt that the handing-over ceremony for the Selangor CID chief post will happen on Thursday between SAC Datuk Fadzil Ahmat and SAC Nik Ezanee.
