King congratulates Malaysian students on admission to Harvard College

KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 -- Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah extends his heartiest congratulations to two Malaysian students on their admission into Harvard College, the undergraduate college of Harvard University in the United States.

The two students Muhammad Hamdi Ahmad Hakimi from Kuantan, Pahang and Jarell Cheong Tze Wen from Kuala Lumpur, who will admitted to the Class of 2025, plan to further their studies in Economics and Mathematics respectively.

His Majesty also expressed joy and pride over the duo’s outstanding achievement as they were among 1,968 students selected out of 57,435 applicants from around the world.

"The students’ impressive achievement proves that Malaysia is capable of producing competent individuals who are of international standards.

"The remarkable achievement also shows that with unwavering commitment, high fighting spirit and hard work, Malaysians are able to compete and succeed at international levels," the King said in a post via Istana Negara's Facebook and Instagram accounts today.

Al-Sultan Abdullah also expressed hope that the students’ achievement would inspire other Malaysians especially youth, to work hard and strive for success in their respective fields.

The King also wished Muhammad Hamdi and Jarell all the best and prayed that they would be blessed with continued success and would carry on to make the country proud.

Muhammad Hamdi a graduate of Sekolah Menengah Sains Alam Shah, Kuala Lumpur went on to study A-levels at Tuanku Ja'afar College in Negeri Sembilan as a Bank Negara Kijang scholar.

A debater who gave tuition to secondary school students, Muhammad Hamdi enjoys discussing his worldviews and opinions on current issues.

Jarell completed his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia and A-levels at Sekolah Menengah Seri Bintang Utara, Kuala Lumpur and Sunway College, Petaling Jaya.

Apart from his outstanding academic performance, Jarell had also represented Malaysia at the 2019 SEA Games Dancesport, competed in the Asian Pacific Mathematical Olympiad and international chess tournaments.
